PETALING JAYA: Final call to register for the Asia ESG Summit, where regional experts will convene to discuss pressing issues shaping the environmental, social and governance (ESG) landscape.

The summit, themed “Driving Action to Measurable Impact”, will take place on July 21 and 22 at Sunway Resort Hotel in Petaling Jaya.

For in-depth discussions, it will feature three concurrent forums, namely ESG Governance and Data Assurance, Circular Economy, and Green Climate and Energy, diving deep into topics that are high on the priority agenda of ESG practitioners.

For the ESG Governance and Data Assurance forum, discussions will centre on strengthening governance practices while helping organisations build the capabilities needed to meet evolving ESG expectations.

Covering topics such as circular product design, waste-to-value ecosystems and regenerative urban development, the Circular Economy forum will help organisations develop strategies for waste reduction and resource optimisation while building resilient and sustainable business models.

Meanwhile, the Green Climate and Energy forum will examine the strategies and market developments shaping the transition to a low-carbon energy future. Scope 3 decarbonisation, energy security and carbon market readiness will be among the topics discussed.

A panel on “Plastics and Packaging in Transition: Navigating Asia’s New Regulations and the Shift to Sustainable Materials” under the Circular Economy forum will present an overview of emerging plastics regulations in Asia and the shift towards sustainable packaging materials.

Panellist Prof Dr Sarva Mangala Praveena from the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health at Universiti Putra Malaysia’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is an environmental health scientist whose research focuses on how pollutants such as microplastics and heavy metals threaten ecosystems and human well-being.

Fellow panellist Dr Arisman, executive director of the Center for South-East Asian Studies in Indonesia, highlighted the food and beverage industry as a major contributor of plastic packaging waste across the region.

“Strengthening collaboration among governments, industry associations and the private sector is essential to ensure that sustainable packaging solutions are effectively implemented and scaled up across the region.”

At the ESG Governance and Data Assurance forum, a panel on “Fast-Rising ESG Strategic Priorities: Translating Disclosure, Data and Decarbonisation into Business Value” will examine how companies can turn ESG reporting and decarbonisation efforts into a source of competitive advantage.

Panellist Elsa Ben Hamou Dassonville, executive director and head of APAC sustainability and climate solutions specialists at Morgan Stanley Capital International, will bring extensive experience in integrating sustainability and climate considerations into investment strategies, product innovation and risk management.

The Green Climate and Energy forum will also feature a panel on “Corporate PPAs: Navigating Power Purchase Agreements for 100% Renewable Energy”, which will explore how companies can secure long-term renewable energy through corporate power purchase agreements (PPAs), manage risks and accelerate progress towards net-zero targets.

Drawing on her extensive experience navigating Asia’s evolving energy landscape, Clean Energy SEA Pte Ltd founder and principal advisor Jane Tay will contribute her technical proficiency in cross-border electricity imports as well as virtual and physical PPA structures.
