GOF detains man, seizes 700kg of durian in Rantau Panjang raid

KOTA BARU: The General Operations Force (GOF) has detained a man and seized 700kg of durian, along with a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle, with a total estimated value of RM53,500 during a raid in Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas, on Thursday (July 9).

GOF Southeast Brigade commander Senior Asst Comm Ahmad Radzi Hussain said the 22-year-old local man was detained at the Abe Li Posmen illegal jetty at 7.15pm after personnel from the Strike Force of Company B, 9th GOF Battalion Kuala Terengganu, conducting a patrol, spotted a suspicious 4WD vehicle.

He said an inspection uncovered 700kg of durian valued at RM3,500 stored in the rear passenger seating area and the cargo compartment of the vehicle.

"The suspect failed to produce any valid documents related to the durian being transported. He was subsequently detained, while the vehicle and its load of durians were seized for further action," he said in a statement Friday (July 10) night.

According to Ahmad Radzi, preliminary investigations found that the suspect claimed he had merely been instructed by his employer to collect the durian at the location before delivering them to a retail outlet in Pasir Puteh. - Bernama
