Four motorcyclists killed in LPT crash involving 12 bikes and a car

KUANTAN: Four motorcyclists were killed in a crash involving 12 motorcycles and a car at KM246.4 of the East Coast Expressway (LPT) heading towards Kemaman here early Saturday (July 11) morning, Sinar Harian reports.

Kuantan OCPD Asst Comm Ashari Abu Samah told the Malay language daily that in the 1.20am crash, the victims — Che Mohd Sufian Che Ghani, 40; Muhammad Hafiz Al Hakim Mazlan, 33; and Mohd Aizat Husni, 33 — were pronounced dead at the scene.

He said another rider, Muhammad Safawi Md Noh, 24, died while receiving treatment at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) here.

“The rear passenger of the car, a 13-year-old, was reported to have suffered a neck injury and was sent to the same hospital for treatment, while the driver was unhurt.

“Details of the other eight riders have yet to be obtained,” he told Sinar Harian.

ACP Ashari said initial investigations found that the car was believed to have been travelling from Kuantan towards Kemaman.

He said when the car reached the location and was travelling straight in the right lane, a motorcycle suddenly hit the rear of the vehicle.

“The motorcyclist is believed to have fallen in the right lane, causing three other motorcyclists to be unable to avoid him and collide with one another.

“As a result of the crash, three riders died at the scene while another died while receiving treatment at HTAA.

“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said.
