KUALA LUMPUR: PAS is ready to help Barisan Nasional form the Johor state government if the latter does not secure a simple majority in the 16th state election, says Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.
The PAS president said the the party is prepared to support and strengthen the state administration to preserve Malay-Muslim political leadership in Johor.
"If we win seats in Johor, Umno can have the Mentri Besar's post. It is up to them to decide who they want to appoint as executive councillors.
"If there are weaknesses, PAS can help make up for them, but that depends on the number of seats PAS wins.
"If Barisan Nasional falls short of the numbers needed to form the state government, PAS seats can be combined with theirs to enable the formation of the state administration," he told a press conference after the Perikatan Nasional-PAS Grand Finale campaign event at Laman Muafakat in Bakri on Wednesday (July 8) night.
Abdul Hadi said PAS also had no issue supporting MCA and MIC, provided it did not undermine a state government led by Malays.
"What matters is that political power remains in the hands of the Malay-Muslim community, while non-extremist non-Muslim parties are acceptable.
"However, if Barisan Nasional has sufficient seats, PAS has no issue with that," he said.
The Johor election will see Barisan and Pakatan fielding 56 candidates each, Perikatan 33, Parti Bersama Malaysia 15, Muda four, Parti Orang Asli Malaysia (Asli) one, Parti Sosialis Malaysia one and six independents.
PAS is contesting 11 state seats after identifying them as having the best winning potential.
Polling is scheduled for July 11, with early voting was conducted on July 7.
