JOHOR BARU: Pakatan Harapan’s candidates urge voters abroad to return to Johor and vote on Saturday (July 11)
“We received feedback from youths abroad that they still haven’t decided on whether or not to return to vote, because they are working.
“We want to urge all voters to come back and vote because every vote is valuable and it will determine the state government’s policy in the next five years,” said Pakatan’s candidate for Tiram, Nor Zulaila Abd Ghani in a joint press conference on Thursday (July 9).
Leading the press conference was Pakatan candidate for Larkin, Suhaizan Kaiat, who is also Pulai MP.
Suhaizan urged voters who are working on Saturday (July 11) to plan their time wisely so they could cast their ballot on time.
“If the state leaders are not from the same party as the federal government, then there will be some challenges for us to carry out public activities,” he said.
Stulang candidate Andrew Chen said voters should treat the state polls seriously, as they would in a general election.
“We are here to appeal to those working outside Johor, whether in Singapore or Kuala Lumpur, to come back and vote,” Chen said.
Johor Jaya candidate Lee Wern Yiing also urged those working in Singapore to plan their return around the Causeway and Second Link, saying extra lanes had been in place to ease congestion.
She said the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) complex in Johor Bahru would have 38 counters and 35 auto gates open, along with QR-code scanning lanes, while the Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar (KSAB) at the Second Link would run 24 counters and up to 24 auto gates on its bus lane.
“I urge all to return to work, and we have made preparations to reduce congestion,” she added.
Skudai candidate J Karthiyayini said voting is the responsibility and democratic right of a voter.
“I urge and plead to voters to come in large numbers to determine the future of our beloved Johor state government,” she added.
Johor will go to the polls on Saturday (July 11).
