Saravanan receives Indian award

DATUK Seri M. Saravanan was honoured with the Kaviarasu Kannadasan Centenary Award by a prestigious Tamil Nadu literary ­organisation, Makkal Osai reported.

The Tapah MP, who is also MIC deputy president, was conferred the honour during the launch of the Kannadasan Centenary Festival in Namakkal, India, for his support of Tamil literature in Malaysia.

The event was hosted by the Namakkal Kamban Kazhagam and the Pasumai Namakkal ­association in conjunction with the year-long celebrations leading up to the poet’s 100th birthday.

He received the award from Gandhi Kannadasan, the son of the beloved late poet and film song lyricist who was considered one of the greatest lyricists in India.

In his acceptance speech, Saravanan said it was a great honour to receive the award at such a prestigious event.
