JOHOR BARU: Four districts in Johor are expected to experience morning showers on Tuesday (July 7) during early voting for the state's 16th election.
Johor Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) director Azlai Ta'at said the weather conditions are expected to affect the districts of Batu Pahat, Muar, Pontian, and Tangkak.
He said that the weather is predicted to be fine and sunny in the morning for Johor Baru, Segamat, Kluang, Kota Tinggi, Mersing, and Kulai.
"But by afternoon, weather conditions are expected to deteriorate, with thunderstorms forecast across all districts," he told Bernama Monday (July 6).
Consequently, Azlai urged voters to plan and cast their ballots early in the day to ensure the voting process runs smoothly.
On Tuesday, 24,751 early voters are expected to head to the polls for the 16th state election, as 64 early voting stations open statewide from 8am.
This segment of the electorate comprises 12,041 Malaysian Armed Forces personnel and their spouses, and a further 12,710 Royal Malaysia Police and General Operations Force personnel and their spouses.
Depending on the location and the total number of registered voters, early voting centres will close at staggered hours between noon and 6pm.
The Johor state election involves 2,727,926 eligible voters who will cast their ballots across 1,140 polling centres.
In total, 172 candidates are contesting 56 state seats in the polls, as 2.7 million ordinary voters prepare to go to the ballot box this Saturday (July 11). - Bernama
