Strong track record more important than ‘recycled’ label

JOHOR BARU: A strong track record of serving the people matters more than candidates who frequently switch constituencies, says Umno supreme council member Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed.

He urged voters to choose leaders who have proven their service on the ground, even if they are labelled as “recycled” candidates.

Nur Jazlan was responding to criticisms of Barisan’s candidates in the Johor election.

He claimed Pakatan Harapan is also fielding similar candidates who are not well known to local communities.

He said some candidates moved from one constituency to another after serving one term, suggesting that this shows a lack of commitment to local voters.

“After winning one term, they move them to another place because they have no real intention of serving the people. They keep changing candidates,” he added.

Nur Jazlan said Barisan’s candidates, although described as “recycled”, are influential figures who are familiar to voters and have earned public trust through continued service.

“We may be fielding ‘recycled’ candidates, but at least ours are influential people who are well known and have earned the people’s trust to continue serving the community.

“So which is better? A ‘recycled’ candidate who pays attention to the people’s issues in the constituency, or one who keeps moving from one seat to another?”

Nur Jazlan also said Pakatan candidates who contest in different constituencies after losing elsewhere appear to be acting out of self-interest rather than prioritising voters’ welfare.
