Six students held for bullying junior in Muar hostel


JOHOR BARU: Six teenage students have been arrested for allegedly bullying a junior schoolmate so severely that he quit school out of fear.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said the suspects, all 17-year-old boys, were arrested in Muar and Alor Gajah, Melaka between 1.30am and 2.12am yesterday.

Comm Ab Rahaman said the incident allegedly took place in May after the 14-year-old victim was accused of vaping using a device obtained from another student.

“The victim claimed he was assaulted and forced to hand over money to the suspects, who are his seniors at the same school in Muar,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He said the victim suffered emotional distress and trauma, prompting him to quit school.

All six suspects have no criminal records and are remanded until today to assist in the investigation, he added.

Comm Ab Rahaman said police are also investigating possible negligence by the hostel warden and school as the incident allegedly took place at the school hostel.
