Six rescued from flash flood in Kampung Permatang Keramat

ALOR SETAR: Six people, including a four-month-old baby, were rescued after being trapped by a sudden flash flood at Kampung Permatang Keramat in Yan on Monday morning (June 29).

Yan Fire and Rescue Station chief Assistant Fire Supt Mohd Farid Mohd Razali said the department received an emergency call about the incident at 10.16am.

He said a fire engine with six firefighters was dispatched to the scene. They arrived at 10.30am.

"The team found that a water surge had caused the river to overflow into the village, leaving several residents stranded.

"The rescue operation was carried out using a rope safety system and personal flotation devices (PFDs) to cross the flooded area and reach the victims," he said in a statement on Monday.

The victims were a 28-year-old man, a 17-year-old boy, two women aged 51 and 37, a three-year-old boy and a four-month-old baby girl.

He said all the victims were handed over to the Village Development and Security Committee for further assistance.

The operation, which was also assisted by two police personnel, concluded at 11.19am.
