ALOR SETAR: Seventeen undocumented migrants were detained by the Kedah Immigration Department after a series of coordinated enforcement operations in Kulim on Sunday (June 28).
The operations, which began at 10am, were conducted by 15 members of the state enforcement division action unit after intelligence gathering in the area.
"The operations targeted four separate premises under a synchronised crackdown comprising Ops Mahir, Ops Sapu, Ops Selera, and Ops Kutip," the department said in a statement on Monday (June 29).
A total of 35 individuals were inspected during the raids, consisting of three Malaysian citizens, 23 Bangladeshi nationals, eight Pakistani nationals, and one Thai national.
From the inspection, 17 foreign men aged between 22 and 54 were detained for suspected offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963.
They comprise nine Bangladeshi nationals, seven Pakistani nationals and one Thai national.
"Among the offences detected included entering and staying in the country without valid travel documents or passes, overstaying and violating the conditions of their issued passes or permits.
The detainees were also issued two Imm.29 forms (Summons to Witness) to assist in further investigations.
All detainees have been transferred to the Belantik Immigration Depot in Sik for further action.
