Kedah exco set to face charges over allegations of university admissions irregularities

PETALING JAYA: Kedah executive councillor for higher education Dr Haim Hilman Abdullah is set to face charges at the Seremban Magistrate’s Court on Thursday (June 25) over issues related to access to higher education that he had previously raised.

The Jitra assemblyman said in a Facebook post that he would be present in court at 9am to face the charges.

“I will attend the Seremban Magistrate’s Court on June 25, 2026, at 9am to face charges related to the issue of access to higher education, which I raised in defence of the rights of Malaysian children, particularly those from B40 and M40 families.

“God willing, I will give my full cooperation to the legal process and will continue to speak up until the truth is upheld and fair educational opportunities for Malaysian children, regardless of race, are protected,” he said in a Facebook post on Wednesday (June 24).

Previously, Haim Hilman was reported to have said he was prepared to face legal action over his claims that some students were admitted into public universities without going through the centralised University Central Unit (UPU) application system.

The media had also reported that the Higher Education Ministry viewed seriously several allegations regarding the public university admissions system that Haim Hilman had continued to repeat, and was considering legal action over the matter.
