SEREMBAN: Negri Sembilan PAS has not ruled out the possibility of contesting traditional DAP seats in the upcoming state election.
Negri Sembilan PAS Commissioner Mohd Fairuz Mohd Isa said that the matter depends on seat allocation negotiations if there is cooperation involving other parties.
"We know there are other parties that want to be with us, and when the seat allocation process happens, maybe the Malay-majority seats will not be enough for us to contest," he told reporters after a public lecture and the launch of the Negri Sembilan PAS state election logo here on Sunday (June 21) night.
"Therefore, we might contest in seats owned by Pakatan Harapan and DAP where we see 40% of the voters are Malay," he added.
According to him, just like the state election in 2023, the party aims to contest in more than 10 seats, but this is subject to negotiation decisions at the party leadership level.
However, he noted that the party hopes to defend the three seats it won in the previous state election.
Asked about the candidate selection process, Mohd Fairuz said it is almost 90 per cent complete, and among the main criteria given attention are integrity, the ability to serve the people, and being under 60 years old.
In addition, he reminded the entire machinery and party members to accept any decision made by the party leadership with an open heart.
"I know PAS members have high commitment and loyalty to the party," he said.
"That is why I hope all parties can accept whatever decision is made for the benefit of the struggle and the victory of the party," he added.
For the record, in the 2023 state election, Perikatan Nasional (PN) won five seats out of the 36 State Legislative Assembly seats contested.
PAS won three seats, namely Paroi, Serting and Bagan Pinang, while Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) won in Labu and Gemencheh.
