King wants Tabung Haji RCI findings probed to full extent

KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has decreed that investigations into the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) be conducted comprehensively and transparently.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the King had instructed that the investigations be conducted without compromise, with no stone left unturned.

“His Majesty’s concern underscores the importance of safeguarding the trust and confidence of Muslims in the country’s haj management and Islamic financial institutions, which is in line with the Madani government’s commitment,” he said during the tabling of the report in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (Aug 11).

Zulkifli said the Cabinet had unanimously reviewed the RCI report on July 29 and decided to make it public by tabling and debating the report during the special parliamentary sitting.

“The Cabinet has also agreed for a full investigation to be conducted immediately by the enforcement authorities based on the RCI findings.

"Following the decision, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and police acted swiftly by launching follow-up investigations and arresting several key individuals linked to alleged misconduct highlighted in the RCI report," he said.

Zulkifli said the actions demonstrated the government and enforcement authorities’ continued commitment to ensuring there would be no compromise against any party involved in abuse of power or criminal breach of trust involving the assets and funds belonging to the country’s haj pilgrims.
