MUAR: Johor has allocated RM5mil to upgrade and repair four blocks of police quarters in Parit Perupok here after inspections revealed more extensive damage than initially anticipated.
Caretaker Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the state government had originally approved RM1mil for repair and maintenance works following his working visit to the area in March.
He added that during the visit, he found that residents had been facing various long-standing issues that had affected the safety and comfort of their homes.
“Recognising the need for immediate action, the state government approved an initial allocation of RM1mil to carry out repair and maintenance works.
“However, a more detailed assessment later found that the damage was more severe than expected, involving the roofs, building structures, electrical systems, piping and other basic facilities,” he said in a Facebook post here on Monday (June 22).
Onn Hafiz added that as a result, the state government increased the allocation by RM4mil, bringing the total funding to RM5mil to refurbish four blocks of quarters, which house families of police personnel stationed in the area.
He said that although the maintenance of the police quarters did not fall under the state government’s jurisdiction, the welfare of the people should not be constrained by the boundaries of responsibility between agencies.
Onn Hafiz added that the state government would continue to play its part in finding solutions and improving the well-being of Bangsa Johor, expressing hope that the upgrading works would be completed smoothly and according to schedule for the benefit of all residents.
