PORT KLANG: The development of Port Klang’s Third Terminal on Pulau Carey can begin this year after land issues with the Selangor government are resolved, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
He said they were still ironing out details as efforts are on track while working closely through the Public-Private Partnership Unit (Ukas) with the next phase of development.
"The project features collaboration with the private sector and involves a concession model and be carried out through privatisation.
"But first and foremost we have to resolve the land issues with the Selangor state government.
"After which we will begin the development process," he told reporters here on Thursday (June 18).
He said this after officiating the pre-launch ceremony of Wisma Golden Horse, Q Centre @ PKFZ Centralised Labour Quarters (CLQ), the opening of Suntek Materials Sdn Bhd Factory and Golden Horse Rubber Phase 2 Factory, alongside the launch of PKFZ: Smart Intelligence Industrial Park.
Loke added the project would be developed under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model, while reassuring the aim is to begin the project this year.
On March 11, Loke said the Federal Government had given the nod for the development of a third terminal at Port Klang in Pulau Carey.
He added the Cabinet had approved a memorandum by the Transport Ministry for the project, which will be implemented by the Selangor government.
The state government will be establishing a special purpose vehicle with private companies to secure investment for the construction and operation of the terminal.
