Port Klang duty free zone logs record RM566mil in cumulative new investment

PULAU INDAH: With a cumulative new investment value of RM566mil, the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) achieved a milestone as Malaysia’s strategic logistics and trade hub that will drive economic growth, create jobs, boost exports, and strengthen Malaysia’s global competitiveness.

This followed the Pre-Launch ceremony here on Thursday (June 18) for Wisma Golden Horse, Q Centre @ PKFZ Centralised Labour Quarters (CLQ), the opening of Suntek Materials Sdn. Bhd.

Factory and Golden Horse Rubber Phase 2 Factory, alongside the launch of PKFZ: Smart Intelligence Industrial Park.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke, who officiated the ceremony, said the event reflected strong investor confidence in Malaysia’s industrial and logistics ecosystem and PKFZ’s growing role as a regional trade and investment hub.

He said as Malaysia’s first free zone to integrate the Free Zone Management System (FZMS), Automated Gate Operation System (AGOS), Digital Port Pass, and other key operational modules under a single platform, PKFZ is setting a new benchmark for the smart logistics ecosystem.

“The adoption of a “Single Window” ecosystem, together with FZAS (Free Zone Administration System), AI-aided smart CCTV, and drone monitoring, reflects PKFZ’s commitment towards innovation, operational excellence, and its vision of becoming a future-ready regional trade and logistics hub.

“The team has successfully reactivated 86% of commercial spaces that had remained underutilised for nearly two decades. Now, two blocks of eight-storey office buildings have been converted to CLQ and managed by Q Centre Management (Westport) Sdn Bhd.

“Then, an eight-storey hotel was leased to Golden Horse Rubber as their regional corporate office and now renamed as Wisma Golden Horse,” he said in his speech.

With all these initiatives, Loke added that PKFZ achieved its highest-ever revenue of RM108mil in 2025 and recorded a 14.9% growth in throughput to 110,467 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) as at year-to-date May of 2026.

Additionally, he said Chinese investment in PKFZ continues to grow strongly, with occupied space surpassing 3.18 million square feet by January 2026.

He added that China-linked businesses also contributed 88,070 TEUs in 2025, representing 20% of PKFZ’s total throughput.

China remains as PKFZ's biggest import country and this reinforces the strong economic partnership between Malaysia and China, Loke also said.

Port Klang Free Zone Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Priscilla Lim said the strategic developments not only enhance PKFZ’s competitiveness but also strengthen the national supply chain and attract more high-value foreign investments into Malaysia.

The Q Centre @ PKFZ CLQ, which can accommodate up to 6,000 workers, addresses the industry requirements as more than 15,000 workers are currently operating within the PKFZ area, of which approximately 25% are foreign workers.

The event also marked the official opening of Suntek Materials Sdn Bhd, a China-based company involved in the manufacturing of Stone Plastic Composite (SPC) flooring and fencing products.

The RM50mil project commenced large-scale production operations in May 2026 following a preparation phase that began in September 2025.

The company’s products will be exported to international markets including the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

The presence of Suntek Materials is expected to further strengthen PKFZ’s profile as a destination for international investors and contribute to Malaysia’s high-value export activities.

Meanwhile, the Smart Intelligence Industrial Park is an initiative through the development of a Free Zone declaration “Single Window” system in collaboration with Leadcom (M) Sdn. Bhd. and RYZEN Esolutions (M) Sdn. Bhd.

It introduces the Free Zone Management System (FZMS), an integrated platform serving as the primary system for Free Zone declarations covering the Free Zone Import (ZB1), Free Zone Export (ZB1) and Free Zone Value-Added Activities (ZB4).

The system also encompasses entry pass and trade container permit management, disposal and compliance processes, machinery and goods movement monitoring, complaint management and comprehensive operational monitoring.
