KUALA LUMPUR: Sunway Group is exploring partnerships with three international technology companies to pioneer autonomous passenger transport, driverless logistics vehicles and electric aircraft in Malaysia.
In a statement, the group said it plans to work with WeRide, Neolix and AutoFlight to test and potentially deploy the technologies across its integrated townships and businesses.
The plans were announced by Sunway Group president Datuk Anuar Taib at Transport Expo Asia 2026.
Sunway said it is proposing to acquire and trial two fully electric autonomous buses from WeRide along the BRT-Sunway Line, with conditional approval already obtained from the Transport Ministry for a pilot trial.
The group said the initiative could eventually support autonomous shuttle services across its townships, including extended operating hours and more frequent services.
Sunway also intends to partner with Neolix to distribute autonomous logistics vehicles in Malaysia.
The driverless vehicles could be used for last-mile deliveries and the transportation of goods and medical supplies between facilities.
Separately, Sunway is exploring the acquisition and trial of an electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft from AutoFlight, alongside a potential distribution arrangement in Malaysia.
The group said it plans to work with the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia to assess potential applications in aerial logistics, emergency response and passenger transportation, subject to technical feasibility and regulatory approvals.
Anuar said the proposed initiatives were aimed at integrating emerging mobility technologies into the group's operations and communities.
Sunway said its businesses, which span property development, construction, healthcare, retail, hospitality and leisure, could provide locations for testing and deploying the technologies.
The group added that the proposed collaborations could also create opportunities for technology transfer, talent development and participation by Malaysian businesses in emerging mobility industries.
