PAS rebukes Muhyiddin over Perikatan logo remarks

PETALING JAYA: PAS has publicly rebuked Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin over his remarks on the use of the Perikatan Nasional logo, saying he does not have the authority to decide on the coalition’s symbol.

PAS vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah said Muhyiddin’s statement was misleading as approval for the use of the Perikatan logo must go through the coalition’s established procedures, reported Sinar Harian.

“The authorisation letter is signed by the Perikatan chairman, not a party president.

“I think there was a mistake. Muhyiddin may think it can be used easily, but there are rules,” he told reporters in Kota Baru yesterday.

Mohd Amar said any decision on contesting under the Perikatan banner should first be upon within the coalition.

“If he says he wants to contest under the Perikatan ticket, that is another matter. But everything must be discussed in detail at the Perikatan meeting.

“For me, the statement was a little hasty,” he said.

He was speaking after attending the 54th annual general meeting of the Pengkalan Chepa PAS division, which was officiated by Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud.

Mohd Amar also questioned Muhyiddin’s change in stance on admitting new parties into Perikatan, as the latter did not accept Parti Pejuang Tanah Air and Parti Putra into the coalition when he led Perikatan.

“I find his statement puzzling. It appears to be a double standard. These are technical matters that should be discussed,” he said.

Mohd Amar said PAS would continue to monitor developments before deciding on its political direction and its position on any parties seeking to join Perikatan.
