Prioritise people’s welfare, Zahid reminds Negri BN lawmakers

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional assemblymen in Negri Sembilan should leave matters involving the state’s royal institution and Dewan Keadilan dan Undangan (DKU) to the relevant parties and focus on serving the people, said Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said elected representatives should prioritise the people’s welfare rather than become involved in disputes concerning the state’s royal and customary institutions.

“My advice to our assemblymen is not to interfere any further in matters involving the DKU and royal institutions. We should focus on providing services because the people elected their representatives and gave them a mandate,” he said after officiating the Road Safety Congress 2026 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here on Monday morning (Oct 19).

The Umno president and Deputy Prime Minister said legal and royal institutional matters should remain separated from state administration.

On the state administration, Zahid said the Negri Sembilan government was preparing its 2027 Budget despite the situation involving the state executive council.

He said assemblymen from both sides of the political divide should continue working together to address the people’s needs.

On another matter related to the Malacca state elections, Zahid said discussions on political cooperation are finalised, and the outcome will be announced by state Barisan chief Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh in the coming days.
