PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been trying to resume his office routine as he gradually regains his strength following his wife's passing.
The 101-year-old said he had attempted to return to his office over the past two days but was not quite ready.
"I have tried going to the office over the past day or two, but my strength has not quite returned," he said in a statement on Monday (Oct 19).
Dr Mahathir also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to those who helped with the funeral arrangements for his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, and continued offering prayers for her.
He said the outpouring of support had deeply moved him during his period of mourning.
"Even amid this deeply painful grief, I am reminded to remain grateful to Allah for allowing me to have Hasmah for so long, until this stage of my life when so little time remains," he said.
Dr Mahathir also apologised for being unable to respond to some greetings, gestures and messages of condolence.
Dr Siti Hasmah died at the age of 100 at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur on Sept 28.
She was laid to rest at Pusara Negara in Putrajaya on the same day.
