Height restriction dispute at theme park goes viral

AN argument broke out at Ocean Park, Hong Kong’s popular theme park, when a girl was barred from boarding a ride for falling 0.1 cm short of the minimum height requirement, China Press reported.

The parents were seen quarrelling with a staff member manning the pirate ship ride.

Video footage showed them shouting and gesturing, saying that their daughter had been on the ride 10 minutes earlier and had passed the height check.

After the video went viral online, Internet users sided with the employee, saying that safety regulations for amusement park rides must not be compromised.

They pointed out that a tiny difference in height could mean that the safety restraint may fail to lock.

“If an accident happened while the ride is in operation, the child could potentially be thrown off. The consequences would be unimaginable,” one netizen wrote.

Others criticised the parents for putting their girl’s safety at risk for a few minutes of fun.

> Actors in Anhui, China, playing the role of Japanese soldiers were so convincing in their re-enactment of a wartime scene that an audience member stepped in, Oriental Daily reported.

This happened during a stage play at a theme park where the performers, who were dressed in imperial Japanese military uniform, hit a woman tied to a tree.

As the scene was being acted out, an elderly man climbed over a barrier and charged onto the stage. He kicked an actor and punched him in the face.

Spectators and crew members rushed forward to pull the man away.

Realising that he had been overly immersed in the performance, the elderly man apologised and left the stage.

Witnesses said the man later broke down and explained that some of his relatives were killed by the Japanese when they invaded China during World War II.
