KULAI: Two men were killed after a lorry crashed into their vehicle while they were carrying out maintenance works at KM49.3 of the North-South Expressway (southbound) here.
Kulai OCPD Asst Comm Tan Seng Lee said police received a report on the accident, which involved three lorries, at about 2am on Wednesday (June 17).
"Early investigations found that a tanker lorry driven by a 31-year-old local man and a Propel maintenance lorry driven by a 43-year-old local man, together with his 56-year-old Bangladeshi attendant, were carrying out maintenance work on the left side of the road.
"A lorry driven by a 40-year-old local man, accompanied by a 23-year-old attendant, then came from behind and crashed into the rear right side of the Propel lorry," he said in a statement on Wednesday (June 17).
He said the collision caused the driver and attendant of the Propel lorry to suffer severe head injuries and they were pronounced dead at the scene.
"The driver and attendant of the lorry that hit the maintenance vehicle sustained injuries and were taken to Hospital Kulai for treatment, while the tanker lorry driver was unhurt," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, he added.
