Tawau chief cop passes away

KOTA KINABALU: Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin has passed away while receiving treatment at the Tawau Hospital on Wednesday (June 17). He was 53.

The exact cause of his death was not immediately clear, but it is believed to be from injuries sustained while putting out a kitchen fire.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said they are still waiting for the official post-mortem examination report from the hospital.

He said this after paying his last respects at Jasmin's family home in Kampung Sungai Gading at Jalan Apas in Tawau.

The late ACP Jasmin's body was taken to Masjid As-Salam at Tawau police headquarters for people to pay their last respects.

His body was taken to his family home in Kampung Sungai Gading before being laid to rest at the Batu 16 Islamic Cemetery, Jalan Apas.

Comm Jauteh described ACP Jasmin as a dedicated officer who was well respected and liked by his fellow policemen as well as the public.

"He was a very dedicated officer with great potential. He was among the most senior ACP-ranked officers in the Sabah contingent and his name was indeed mentioned for higher positions," Jauteh said, adding that ACP Jasmin was under consideration for promotion to Senior Assistant Commissioner (SAC) before his death.

He thanked the local community, NGOs and police personnel who came forward to assist Jasmin's family during this difficult time.

He said the family would receive welfare assistance from the police, including through the benevolent fund and other forms of financial support.

ACP Jasmin took over as Tawau police chief in March 2022.
