PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will lead Malaysia’s delegation to Kazan, Russia, as Asean marks 35 years of dialogue relations with Moscow at a commemorative summit this week.
The Prime Minister will attend the Asean-Russia Commemorative Summit in Kazan on Wednesday and Thursday (June 17 and 18).
The summit is expected to chart the future direction of cooperation between the two sides.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the summit will review progress under the Asean-Russia Strategic Partnership and explore new areas of practical cooperation.
"The summit marks the 35th anniversary of Asean-Russia relations and will provide an opportunity for leaders to review progress under the strategic partnership and discuss the future direction of Asean-Russia cooperation," the ministry said in a statement on Tuesday (June 16).
Key areas of discussion are expected to include trade and investment, energy, food security, the digital economy, science and technology, education, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.
The summit is also expected to adopt several key outcome documents, including the Kazan Declaration and a new Comprehensive Plan of Action to implement the Asean-Russia Strategic Partnership from 2026 to 2030.
"These documents will guide cooperation in the coming years," the statement read.
On the sidelines of the summit, Anwar is expected to hold engagements with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Rais (Head) of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, as well as Asean counterparts.
The discussions are expected to focus on strengthening bilateral ties and addressing issues of mutual interest.
