RM350mil allocation for construction, maintenance projects in Johor, says Ahmad Maslan

Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan (center) announces that he will not contest in the upcoming Johor state election during a press conference at the Johor Public Works Department (JKR) headquarters here on Monday (June 15).

JOHOR BARU: The Johor government has allocated RM350.6mil for 38 construction and maintenance projects aimed at improving public services and driving economic growth in the state.

Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the allocation covers 24 maintenance projects, 10 road development projects and four building construction projects.

"The implementation of these projects reflects the government's commitment to providing better infrastructure and public facilities while ensuring the well-being of the people continues to be prioritised," he said during a visit to the Johor Public Works Department (JKR) headquarters here on Monday (June 15).

Among the projects being undertaken is the RM8mil rebuilding of a deteriorated building at SK Taman Sri Pulai.

The project involves the construction of a new four-storey block comprising 10 classrooms, a music room, a sports room and a co-curricular activities room.

The project also includes the construction of a pump house, refuse chamber and an assembly pavilion.

"According to project information provided by JKR, the project has reached 92% physical completion and is expected to be completed by Sept 12 this year," he said.

On a separate note, Ahmad also urged the government for further studies on the use of the Modular Precast System (MPS) in government construction projects, saying the technology has the potential to improve efficiency in the sector.

"MPS, which uses prefabricated components assembled on-site, could offer faster construction times and stronger structures compared with the Industrialised Building System (IBS) which is currently in use in many government projects.

"MPS is like assembling Lego blocks. The components are manufactured beforehand and can be installed quickly on-site, resulting in stronger and more durable structures," he said.

Ahmad added that the system could potentially be adopted for the construction of low-cost housing, schools and community halls, subject to further studies on its effectiveness and cost efficiency.
