KUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor Health Department has acknowledged congestion at the Kajang Health Clinic, citing population growth in the district and post-holiday patient influx.
In a statement on Friday (June 12), it noted a viral social media post about the congestion.
"We view the matter seriously and understand the difficulties experienced by patients as a result of the situation.
"The Kajang Health Clinic is a Type 3 Health Clinic designed to accommodate between 300 and 500 patients daily.
"The facility is currently receiving an average of 1,000 to 1,200 patients a day, far exceeding its original capacity," it said.
It added that the increase is largely driven by rapid population growth in the district, which is currently estimated to have more than 457,000 residents and continues to expand.
"A review found that congestion becomes particularly severe after long holiday periods due to the high number of patients, including walk-in cases, as well as limited waiting space shared by outpatients and pharmacy customers.
"To address the issue, the clinic has strengthened patient flow management, implemented staggered admissions based on appointment times, and encouraged the use of the MySejahtera application to book appointment slots.
"We are refining plans to introduce medication lockers for stable chronic disease patients to facilitate quicker collection of medication without the need to queue at pharmacy counters.
"Proposals to upgrade the pharmacy area and expand the waiting area are being considered as long-term solutions as well," it said.
The department urged the public to seek treatment at Semenyih Health Clinic, which began operations on March 2 and is 3.8km from the Kajang facility.
"The (Semenyih Health Clinic) is expected to help ease congestion at Kajang Health Clinic.
"We remain committed to continuously monitoring and improving service delivery to ensure that safe, quality and comfortable healthcare services are provided to the community," it said.
