KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia continues to strengthen its role in the global labour governance ecosystem through participation in the 114th International Labour Conference (ILC) session in Geneva, Switzerland.
Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said that under the leadership of the Madani government, Malaysia remains committed to strengthening new frameworks, norms and approaches to manage the transformation of the world of work driven by technological advancements, digitalisation and global supply chain uncertainties.
He said Malaysia is also strengthening strategic cooperation with major international institutions to refine the agenda of social protection, job security and the development of more inclusive and responsive industrial relations to changes in the labour market.
"The active participation of the country also opens a new chapter in the Global Coalition for Social Justice, thereby strengthening Malaysia's position in advocating for the agenda of social justice, worker protection and more inclusive growth on a global scale," he said in a Facebook post on Thursday (June 11).
Throughout the conference, he said Malaysia emphasised that technological advancement needs to be balanced with a clear, organised and effective policy framework to avoid new imbalances in the workforce.
Ramanan said the Malaysian delegation continues to strengthen the tripartite approach as the foundation for stable and sustainable labour governance, in addition to enhancing the international community's confidence in the stability, credibility and clarity of the country's labour policy framework.
Through that international platform, he said Malaysia also shared its experience in implementing domestic initiatives.
Among them, the Gig Workers Act and the Non-Work-Related Accident Scheme (Lindung 24/7 Protection scheme), which serve as references in global discussions on strengthening worker protection systems and enhancing more progressive and inclusive labour standards.
According to Ramanan, Malaysia also emphasises the need for preparedness in facing increasingly complex global challenges that put pressure on the labour market.
"Emphasis is placed on strengthening the social protection system, enhancing workforce skills and aligning policies to be more responsive and adaptive," he said.
Overall, he also said Malaysia's participation in the 114th ILC strengthens the country's position as a constructive and influential voice in shaping a more sustainable, fair and progressive global labour future in facing future challenges. – Bernama
