Similar to the previous three quakes, no tsunami threat has been issued for Malaysia.
This is the latest in a series of quakes to have taken place in the area since Monday morning.
Earlier, a strong 7.9-magnitude earthquake at a depth of 50km struck Mindanao at 7.37 am, with tremors felt in parts of Sabah, including Tawau and Semporna.
Another strong quake later occurred at a depth of 20km near the first location, with a magnitude of 6.5 at 8.55am.
Subsequently, a third one struck Mindanao at 12.44am with a moderate magnitude of 5.3 at a depth of 70 km.
A fourth one later followed just two minutes apart with a moderate magnitude of 5.6 at a depth of 44 km.
Following the initial quake, tsunami warning sirens were activated along several coastal areas in Sabah as authorities issued a precautionary alert forecasting waves of up to 0.4 metres in Tawau, Semporna, Kunak and Lahad Datu.
The tsunami advisory was later officially lifted at noon.
Checks by Bernama found that sirens at the Al-Kauthar Mosque in Tawau, Sabah, were sounded again at 12.17pm to signal the end of the warning to residents.
