PETALING JAYA: More than nine million contributors under the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969 are now automatically fully protected against non-occupational accidents, effective Monday (June 1), says PERKESO.
Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan announced that the Lindung 24 Jam scheme provides broader social security protection in Malaysia, including during public holidays and rest days.
“The implementation of this scheme under the PERKESO is automatic for all existing formal workers, without requiring any new registration by employers or employees,” he said.
“For individuals newly employed and reporting for duty after June 1, employers are required to register them according to existing procedures through the PERKESO system," he added.
Ramanan explained that contributions for Lindung 24 Jam are fully borne by employees and implemented in phases according to the set schedule, subject to the salary ceiling for contribution purposes, which is RM6,000.
Initially he said, the contribution rate for the scheme is 0.75% of monthly wages and employers are responsible for managing salary deductions and making monthly contribution payments to PERKESO.
“Contribution payments must be made continuously to ensure uninterrupted protection, while also facilitating compliance by employers and employees,” the minister added.
“Through the scheme, PERKESO provides eight benefits for contributors sustainability and welfare.
“This includes medical benefits, temporary disability benefits, permanent disability benefits, and dependants’ benefits.
“There will also be constant attendance allowance, funeral management benefits, physical and vocational rehabilitation or Return To Work (RTW) facilities, as well as education benefits to support the future of dependents,” he said.
The minister emphasised that this expanded coverage aligns with recommendations from the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and international best practices in strengthening workers’ social safety nets.
He added that PERKESO’s latest initiative makes Malaysia’s social security network more comprehensive, dynamic, and relevant to current labour market realities, while supporting the aspirations of the nation in safeguarding workers’ welfare and well-being.
Applications for benefits can be made online via the Lindung Benefits portal at lindungfaedah.perkeso.gov.my/ or by visiting the nearest PERKESO office.
