Teen among two killed in separate road accidents in Pasir Mas

KOTA BARU: A teenager was among two motorcyclists who died in separate road accidents in Pasir Mas on Wednesday, police said.

Pasir Mas district police chief ACP Mazlan Hassan said the first accident, which occurred at about 5pm on Jalan Lubok Gong Jeram Perdah (Old Rantau Panjang Road), involved a motorcycle and a car.

He said the 19-year-old local rider was pronounced dead at the scene and preliminary investigations found that the victim is believed to have been riding at high speed before losing control of the motorcycle and veering into the opposite lane and was hit by an oncoming vehicle.

According to him, due to the close distance between the two vehicles, the rider was unable to return to his lane, causing the motorcycle to collide with the front right side of the car.

"The victim sustained severe injuries, including a severed right arm and was pronounced dead at the scene,” he said in a statement today.

In the second fatal accident reported at about 8.30am, a 47-year-old local woman died after the motorcycle she was riding is believed to have skidded along Jalan Kubang Kuau in Kampung Pohon Stol, Rantau Panjang.

He said the victim suffered severe head injuries and succumbed after fighting for her life for 19 hours while receiving treatment at the Universiti Sains Malaysia Specialist Hospital (HPUSM) in Kubang Kerian.

"Both cases are being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving,” he added. - Bernama
