Students find many study options in one spot

All about skills: The two-day fair, organised by Star Media Group, also includes seven cluster TVET programmes at 56 booths by nine ministries.

GEORGE TOWN: Student Teoh Tian Ya had a field day visiting booths at Star Education Fair 2026.

“I want to explore certain pathways and am considering studying in Germany.

“I heard about a German pathway where the language is offered as an elective while studying pre-university courses,” she said when met at the fair here yesterday.

Tian Ya, 17, who wishes to pursue law, was at the fair with her schoolmate.

“This is our first time attending Star Education Fair and it is so helpful compared with going to individual campuses.

“My friend wants to check out management courses, so that is our next stop,” Tian Ya added.

Iman Syamsul Hafizee, 19, attended the fair with 23 coursemates from Bumbong Lima Agricultural Institute in Kepala Batas.

He said he is pursuing a two-year agriculture course and is interested in studying business management and other courses later.

“I checked out the vocational college booths and was pleasantly surprised by the options,” he said.

Bumbong Lima Agricultural Institute lecturer Samad Yusoff, 52, drove his students to the fair by van.

“We want them to see what other education programmes are out there.

“We want them to further their studies after completing their two-year agriculture course. What better way to do that than at this fair?” Samad said.

Besides tertiary education options, international schools were present at the fair too.

Imperial International School, based in Ipoh, was there to offer parents another international school option.

Its principal Shawn Shim said it was their first time at Penang’s Star Education Fair after seeing rising interest from parents, especially expatriates, who wanted their children to study in Ipoh.

“Many now look at us as an option since international schools have become costlier.

“We offer education from kindergarten up to International General Certificate of Secondary Education, which is equivalent to SPM.

“We offer personalised learning and a holistic approach, with leadership development and a mentor-mentee programme with teachers,” he added.

Shim said the school is offering a full waiver on application fees and 50% off registration fees this weekend.
