Two men fined RM1,300 for littering

KUALA LUMPUR: Two men have been fined RM1,300 each in default of a month in jail by the Sessions Court here for throwing cigarette butts and wooden pallets at a public place.

Coffee chain outlet employee Ahmad Farhan Abdul Ghani, 35, and fruit seller Mohd Hafizi Mohd Raduan, 48, were also ordered to do four hours of community service by Sessions Court judge Siti Shakirah Mohtaruddin here yesterday.

“The summoned persons are ordered to complete the four-hour community service in a month’s time from the date of the court notice, to be issued today,” she said here yesterday.

Ahmad Farhan and Mohd Hafizi had pleaded guilty to charges under Section 77A(1) of the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management 2007.

According to the charge sheet, Ahmad Farhan had thrown cigarette butts at a public place instead of a designated waste container next to a hotel in Bukit Bintang at 7.06pm on Jan 3.

Meanwhile, Mohd Hafizi also admitted to throwing away the wooden pallets and commercial waste at a public place instead of a designated waste container in front of a shop in Jalan Ipoh, Pusat Bandar Utara Selayang, here at 3.40pm on Jan 17.

The two men were seen committing the offences by several enforcement officers from SWCorp during an operation on Jan 3 and Jan 17.

Prosecuting officer Wan Mohd Hardy Alias from SWCorp asked the court to mete out a sentence as a lesson to the community.

“The two men are fit physically and mentally to serve community service. We ask the court to give an order that could be a lesson to the public,” he said.
