KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional will continue to preserve understanding in the Unity Government until the end of the administration's mandate to ensure national stability and the well-being of the people, said its secretary-general, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.

He said Barisan is of the view that the understanding and basis for the formation of the Unity Government after the 15th general election (GE15) is the responsibility of the nation to prevent Malaysia from falling into prolonged political polemics.

"The understanding was agreed upon until the mandate ends. Therefore, there is no question of Barisan Nasional betraying the Unity Government," he said in a statement here, on Tuesday (May 19).

On developments in Johor, Zambry said Barisan respects the stance voiced by the state's Barisan regarding the direction and preparations for the upcoming state election.

He said the stance was in line with the views of all parties in the Johor Barisan component parties.

Last Saturday (May 16), Johor Barisan chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced that the coalition would contest all 56 state assembly seats in the upcoming Johor state election. – Bernama
