TWO separate cases of people getting trapped in deep bore water wells in India within days of each other have caught public attention, Malaysia Nanban reported.

In the first case, which was reported four days ago, involved a man who was undertaking a pilgrimage on foot in Tiruvannamalai city, Tamil Nadu.

Arun Kumar, 35, accidentally fell into a well that had been dug for farming. Unable to climb out, he was forced to spend the entire night inside the well.

Not knowing how to swim, he clung to a pipe until the next morning when he was found by the owner’s son who went to turn on the pump.

The second case involved a three-year-old boy in Punjab named Gurkaran Singh who fell into a newly bored well that was about 9.1m deep.

He was eventually rescued by volunteers and rescue teams who worked for nine hours to reach him, and rushed to hospital for a medical examination and treatment.
