Malaysia-Turkiye ties key to expanding strategic cooperation, says PM Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia-Turkiye relations, which are currently at the level of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, continue to serve as an important platform for expanding cooperation across various strategic sectors, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said this includes trade and investment, the defence industry, technology, education and people-to-people ties.

"May the close relationship between Malaysia and Türkiye continue to be strengthened for peace, regional stability and prosperity that benefits the people of both countries," he said in a Facebook post on Monday (May 18).

Earlier, Anwar received a farewell courtesy call from Turkiye's Ambassador to Malaysia Emir Salim Yuksel.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister and the ambassador exchanged views on various current regional and global issues, as well as ongoing efforts to strengthen the close ties between the two countries.

"I also recorded my appreciation for Emir Salim's role and contributions throughout his service in strengthening the longstanding friendship and bilateral relations between Malaysia and Turkiye, which have long been built on mutual respect and shared benefit," he said. - Bernama
