JOHOR BARU: As more than three years have passed since the last general election, there may not be a by-election following the decision of two PKR MPs to quit their party.
Pakatan Harapan deputy chairman Anthony Loke said it was now up to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul to make a decision on the matter.
He said that while he respected their decisions, as a matter of principle an MP, who contested and won, should continue to serve until the end of his term.
"It has already passed the three year mark and even if asked to vacate, there is no necessity to have a by-election," he told reporters when attending the Pakatan Harapan convention here on Sunday (May 17).
Earlier today, former Cabinet ministers Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad officially announced that they are leaving PKR to join Parti Bersama Malaysia.
They said their respective parliamentary seats of Pandan and Setiawangsa would be vacated with effect from Monday (May 18).
They said they would officially move to Parti Bersama Malaysia on Tuesday (May 19), severing their long-standing ties with PKR.
