Foreign woman arrested after breaching restricted area at KLIA Terminal 1

PETALING JAYA: A foreign woman was arrested after allegedly trespassing into a restricted security area at the international departure gate of Terminal 1 at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

KLIA OCPD Asst Comm Ravi Munusamy said the incident occurred at about 1.35pm on Saturday (May 16).

He said the suspect, a woman from China, allegedly passed through the autogate security checkpoint without a flight ticket before acting aggressively when approached by security personnel at International Departure Gate C, Terminal 1 KLIA.

“Following the incident, the suspect was successfully detained by MAHB auxiliary police at about 1.45pm on the same day,” he said in a statement on Sunday (May 17).

Initial investigations found that the woman had entered Malaysia on April 30 for a holiday with a friend but did not have enough money to purchase a return ticket to her home country.

He said the suspect was brought before the Sepang Court on Sunday and remanded for further investigation under Section 7 of the Protected Areas and Protected Places Act 1959.

The offence carries a fine of up to RM1,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both upon conviction.

He also reminded the public to comply with instructions from security personnel and to avoid any actions that could cause public alarm, especially at KLIA Terminals 1 and 2.
