Man nabbed with exotic wildlife meat at Semporna resort

SEMPORNA: A 23-year-old man was arrested for possession of exotic animals and wildlife meat during an operation to inspect resorts here.

Semporna OCPD Supt Tan Hiap Wah (pic) said the suspect was found with several exotic species and wildlife meat without valid permits during a joint operation by police and the Semporna District Council.

“The seized items have been handed over to the Sabah Wildlife Department for further investigation and action,” he said in a statement Saturday that was posted on Facebook.

The integrated operation that saw six resorts inspected was aimed at ensuring compliance with licensing and operational regulations.

The local council has issued 15 compound notices amounting to RM10,000 for licensing and operational offences, he said.

Supt Tan said cooperation between police, the district council and the Wildlife Department would continue to curb illegal activities, and urged the public to channel information to authorities.

A total of 29 personnel members from the police and district council were involved in the operations.
