Confusion over part-time training for Contract of Service teachers resolved, says Fadhlina

IPOH: The confusion over applications for the Education Ministry's Contract of Service (CoS) hiring scheme for education service officers has been resolved, says Fadhlina Sidek.

The Education Minister said the issue had been resolved at the Education Department and Education Service Commission levels, as soon as the complaints were made known.

"That issue is no longer there.

"We have resolved the confusion... it was only temporary," she told a press conference after attending the national-level Teacher's Day Appreciation Ceremony here on Friday (May 15).

There had been grouses by people who applied for the scheme under the Postgraduate Diploma in Education – Vacation Course Mode (PDPP KDC), to be conducted on weekends or school holidays, but were given PDPP Perdana, for full-time courses.

CoS is a government initiative by the ministry that hires graduates without a formal teaching degree to teach in schools.

Separately, Fadhlina said teachers who are long-distance married couples would be given priority for transfer applications.

"In the context of applications for transfer, 80% are related to long-distance couples, which we have resolved.

"The others are based on health issues and safety, which are also considerations.

"We understand this situation very well and we take into account all those applications... our goal is indeed to take care of the welfare of our teachers," she added.
