Ipoh white coffee, the identity and pride of the state of Perak, has been made into a short film titled Ipoh White Coffee, created by local independent art activist Faindra Jabbar, and is expected to be screened in conjunction with World Coffee Day in October.
The approximately 15-minute film pays tribute to the history, tradition and culture of Ipoh's famous beverage, both nationally and internationally, while also highlighting the uniqueness of the local community and heritage through a visual storytelling approach.
Faindra said that the idea for the work arose from the desire to document and preserve the heritage of Perak.
"The idea for this film was born out of the desire to document and preserve the heritage of the state through the medium of visual storytelling that can impact both current and future generations.
"Ipoh White Coffee is not just about showcasing the culture of enjoying coffee, but rather elevating the values of memory, tradition, and the identity of the community that has shaped the history and development of the city of Ipoh for a long time," he said in a statement.
The short film tells the story of a family's conflict as they face the dilemma of pursuing their dreams in the arts or continuing the legacy of the family coffee business, with coffee serving as a symbol that connects the relationships and emotional development of each character.
In addition to the themes of heritage and family, the work also incorporates a message of mental health awareness as one of the moral values it aims to highlight to the audience
He said the project also received support through financing from PORT Ipoh via the Perak Creative Fund 2026 initiative, in addition to sponsorship from several cafes, coffee shops and local business premises around Ipoh.
Meanwhile, the film’s director of photography Meor Muhammad Aslam said that the filming also focused on the beauty of tourist locations around Ipoh and several other areas in Perak as an effort to promote the state's tourism sector.
It is said that the filming was completed at the end of May in several locations, including Ipoh, Batu Gajah, Tronoh and Bota, while the film is now in the post-production phase. – Bernama
