3,600 litres of pilfered petrol recovered from remote Pitas river

KOTA KINABALU: Eighteen drums filled with petrol believed to have been misappropriated were found floating at a river mouth in Kampung Pagason in Sabah’s northern Pitas district.

The drums containing 3,600 litres of petrol worth RM7,164 were found during the Ops Tiris 4.0 integrated operation.

They were handed over by the General Operations Force (GOF) to the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry's Kudat branch for further action under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

Ministry Kudat branch chief Nazatul Shima Karim said on Friday (May 15) that no individual or group had claimed ownership of the drums, which were discovered the day before.

"This activity (of stashing the petrol in drums) is believed to have been carried out in a remote area to avoid detection by the authorities, while concealing the misappropriation of controlled goods," she said in a statement.

Nazatul Shima said the ministry would continue to strengthen enforcement to ensure the supply of controlled goods remains secure and reaches the intended target groups.

"Anyone with information related to the misappropriation of controlled goods is urged to channel the information to the ministry through its official channels," she said.
