Fortune teller claims trial to charge of causing senior citizen’s death

KUALA LUMPUR: A fortune teller claimed trial at the Selayang Sessions Court to a charge of causing the death of a senior citizen last week.

Toh Kai Lun, 30, was accused of causing the death of Lim Kim Thong, 76, at a fast food restaurant in Desa Jaya, Kepong, between 5.20pm and 5.40pm on May 5.

The charge under Section 304(b) of the Penal Code carries a maximum jail term of 10 years, a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Kamarul Iman Ahmad Sapian offered bail at RM10,000 in two sureties.

Lawyer Ernie Ahmad from the National Legal Aid Foundation, who represented the accused, asked for a lower bail as the accused could only raise RM5,000.

Sessions Court judge Nor Azlin Othman fixed bail at RM8,000 in two sureties and ordered the accused to report at the nearest police station once a month.

The case is fixed for mention on July 15.
