Retired policewoman held after high-speed chase

REMBAU: A high-speed drama, which saw six police vehicles chasing a car for over 50km from Negri Sembilan to Melaka, ended with a surprise arrest – the culprit was a 65-year-old retired policewoman.

The one-hour long chase had begun when the woman had allegedly hit two vehicles in Taman Sedia Raja, Chembong here, and fled the scene.

The cross-border chase, which involved three patrol cars, one police pickup truck and two patrol bikes from here and Melaka.

The chase ended with the suspect’s arrest along Jalan Bukit Beruang, Melaka.

The former police sergeant was found to be on drugs.

Acting Rembau OCPD Deputy Supt Azmi Ali said the incident began when the suspect reportedly crashed her car into a van and another car.

“Rembau police received a call at around 10.30pm on Monday about the incident.

“A patrol unit dispatched to the scene spotted the vehicle and attempted to intercept it, but the driver refused to stop, triggering the pursuit,” he said in a statement.

DSP Azmi said police teams from Alor Gajah and Melaka Tengah were also involved in the pursuit.

He said a search found nothing incriminating on the suspect’s body.

However, police found four pills believed to be ecstasy in a bag in the car.

DSP Azmi said a urine test conducted on the suspect returned positive for amphetamine abuse.

“The police will apply for an order from the Magistrate’s Court in Ayer Keroh to have the suspect remanded,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 and Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959.
