Thunderstorms and heavy rain expected in four states until noon

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds across four states, effective until noon on Tuesday (May 12).

The weather alert covers the entire state of Perlis and in Kedah, the affected area is Langkawi.

Several districts in Perak are expected to experience severe weather, namely Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Bagan Datuk and Batang Padang.

In Kelantan, the warning has been issued for the Gua Musang district.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when there are signs indicating a thunderstorm with a rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that is imminent or expected to occur for more than one hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a period not exceeding six hours for any single release.

The notice was officially issued by the department at 9.10am on Tuesday.
