Man arrested for sword attack at Cameron Highlands temple

KUANTAN: Police arrested a man for allegedly injuring an individual with a sword at a temple in Cameron Highlands on Monday (May 11).

Cameron Highlands police chief Supt Azri Ramli said the 39-year-old suspect was arrested after police received a public tip-off regarding the incident at about 6pm.

Initial investigations found that the incident happened while the 31-year-old victim was taking part in a religious ceremony at the temple with his friends.

"The suspect suddenly entered the temple grounds, making noise and disturbing visitors. When asked to leave, the suspect became enraged, seized a sword found at the temple, and swung it at the victim.

"The victim, who tried to ward off the attack, sustained injuries to his hands, forehead, and body. He was taken to the Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom Hospital in Tanah Rata before being referred to Fatimah Hospital in Ipoh for further treatment," he said in a statement on Monday night.

Azri said checks found the suspect has a previous criminal record, including drug-related offences.

The suspect has been remanded for four days until Thursday to assist in investigations under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means. - Bernama
