Remand of driver in fatal Jalan Ampang crash extended

PETALING JAYA: Investigation papers into a fatal crash involving a 24-year-old driver suspected of being under the influence of alcohol have been referred to the Kuala Lumpur Deputy Public Prosecutor’s office.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the papers were submitted at 3pm on Monday (May 11) for further instructions.

“The man’s remand has also been extended from Monday until Friday under Section 302 of the Penal Code,” he said in a statement on Monday.

It was previously reported that a husband and wife were killed after the motorcycle they were on was hit by a car near Menara Great Eastern along Jalan Ampang on May 2.

Initial investigations found that the driver is believed to have lost control of the car before crashing into the rear of the couple’s motorcycle.

In the 5.34am incident, the 61-year-old motorcyclist and his 56-year-old wife died at the scene from head injuries.

The driver and two male passengers, aged 23 and 24, were injured.
