Johor drug syndicates busted, RM4.8mil narcotics seized

JOHOR BARU: Police have busted two syndicates and seized various drugs worth RM4.77mil.

Johor acting police chief Deputy Comm Hoo Chuan Huat said six suspects, aged from 21 to 50, were detained in several raids conducted by the state Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) on May 7 and 8.

Three raids were conducted around Johor Baru and Masai on May 7, leading to the arrest of five local men, he said at a press conference on Monday (May 11).

He said all suspects tested positive for drugs and four had previous criminal records.

He said a total of 27.54kg of drugs were seized, with an estimated street value of RM3.65mil.

On May 8, police arrested a 21-year-old local man at a house in Taman Perling and seized drugs worth RM1.12mil.

He added that the suspect, believed to be a drug distributor, used the house as a drug storage and repackaging centre.

The suspect also tested positive for drugs and had a record of drug-related crimes.

Police also seized various assets including cars, motorcycles, jewellery and cash under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988.

All suspects have been remanded for seven days and the cases are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and no fewer than 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.
