JOHOR BARU: Two police associations have joined the growing number of groups and individuals lodging police reports against Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi over his remarks involving the dissolution of the Johor state assembly.

Johor Retired Senior Police Officers Association (Respa) chairman SAC (R) Datuk Sugumaran Raman stressed that issues involving the 3Rs (race, religion and royalty) should not be touched on.

"Whatever differences there may be in politics, nobody should touch on the Johor royal institution or 3R issues.

"The Johor royal institution has always played an important role in ensuring harmony, peace and the well-being of the people," he said when contacted.

He also called on the police to take appropriate action against any individual found to have made statements that could affect the reputation of the Johor royal institution.

Sugumaran said he, together with Johor Retired Police Association president Khadmudin Mohamed Rafik and vice-president ACP (R) Razak Md Said, lodged police reports on behalf of the two associations at about 2pm at the Tampoi police station.

It was reported earlier that police had received 153 reports nationwide over statements made by Mohd Puad.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said the figure was recorded as of 3pm today, adding that more reports were expected to be lodged.

Earlier, caretaker Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi had also denied Mohd Puad's statement, describing the claim as a distortion of the constitutional process.

This comes after Mohd Puad announced his resignation from Umno, saying he was leaving the party voluntarily.

In his statement, Mohd Puad claimed that Johor Umno no longer had the freedom to make its own decisions.

He also alleged that Onn Hafiz had told him that the palace had directed the dissolution of the assembly.
