Driver arrested to assist probe into three-vehicle crash on NKVE

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a 26-year-old driver to assist in investigations into a three-vehicle crash along the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) heading towards the Duta toll plaza here.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the incident, which went viral on social media, occurred at KM28 of the NKVE at about 11pm on May 9.

“Initial investigations found that a car driven by a 26-year-old local man is believed to have skidded and stopped in the right lane of the highway.

“Another car driven by a 40-year-old Indonesian man then crashed into the vehicle before a pickup truck driven by a 41-year-old local man also rammed into the car, causing both vehicles to veer to the left side of the road and hit the road barrier,” he said in a statement on Monday (May 11).

ACP Mohd Zamzuri said all three drivers escaped unhurt.

He said the pickup truck sustained damage to its rear bumper, reverse sensors, front bonnet, front bumper and radiator, while one of the cars suffered damage to its bumper, bonnet, front lights and fender.

“The extent of damage to the other car is still under investigation,” he said.

He added that actions taken included applying for CCTV footage from the scene, recording witness statements, conducting a site visit and inspecting and photographing the vehicles involved.

The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
